Getting to Florence

Fly into Florence Peretola Airport (FLR):

This is the closest airport to Florence, located just 4 kilometers (about 2.5 miles) northwest of the city center. While it's a smaller airport, it offers connections from many major European cities.

From FLR to Florence City Center or Venue:

Taxi: Taxis are readily available directly outside the arrivals terminal. The ride to the city center takes about 15-20 minutes and typically has a fixed rate (around €22-€28, plus a small supplement per suitcase). Look for the official taxi stand.

Fly into a Major Hub and Connect by Train

This is often the most convenient option if flying directly from the United States.

Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO):

Many direct flights from the US land in Rome. From FCO, you can take the Leonardo Express train to Rome's Termini station (about 30 minutes). From Termini, high-speed trains (Frecciarossa or Italo) run frequently to Florence's Santa Maria Novella (SMN) station, taking about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP):

Similar to Rome, Milan also offers many international flight connections. From MXP, you can take a train or shuttle to Milan Centrale station, and then a high-speed train to Florence SMN.

Transportation

Il Salviatino Shuttle

Il Salviatino provides a complimentary shuttle service to and from Florence city center in the Piazza di San Firenze. Please find the shuttle schedule here.

Taxis

Taxis are available throughout Florence. Look for official taxi stands (often found at train stations, major piazzas, and tourist attractions). You can also have your hotel call one for you.

Uber

While Uber is available in Florence, it operates primarily through "Uber Black" (licensed private drivers in higher-end vehicles) and is not as widespread or readily available as the standard UberX service in the US. You may experience longer wait times and higher fares.

Wedding Venue

Il Salviatino

Accommodations in Florence

Exploring Florence & Tuscany

Florence is filled with incredible art, history, and, of course, amazing food! We hope you'll take some time to explore. Here are some of our personal recommendations:

Uffizi Gallery

One of the world's most significant art museums, housing masterpieces by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and more. Recommendation: Book tickets or a tour online well in advance to secure entry and minimize wait times.

Boboli Gardens:

Located behind the Pitti Palace, these extensive Renaissance gardens feature elaborate fountains, sculptures, and grottos. They offer a tranquil escape and impressive views. You may find less of a line with the Porta Romana entrance.

The Leather Market & Massimo Leather:

The San Lorenzo Leather Market offers a wide range of leather goods. For high-quality leather jackets and potentially favorable deals (tell him Brooke sent you!), visit Massimo Leather just outside the main market area. Right next door you will also find il Mercato Centrale, which is a great place to get a quick meal or pasta to take home.

Piazzale Michelangelo:

This elevated piazza offers beautiful panoramic views of Florence, particularly at sunset. It is accessible via a walk or short taxi/bus ride.

Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella:
Established in 1221, this historic pharmacy is a beautifully preserved space offering perfumes, soaps, elixirs, and herbal remedies. It is considered one of the world's oldest pharmacies.

Do note that the first Sunday of each month offers free admissions to Florence museums and you can expect longer lines!

Key Florence Attractions

Food & Drinks

You can't go wrong in Florence! Here are a few places I enjoy.

All'Antico Vinaio

Famous for its large, traditional Tuscan panini. You may expect a line, but it is worth the hype!

Gelateria La Carraia

After three months of tasting, I decided this was the best! Located near the Arno.

Shopping & Dining in Santo Spirito:

Explore the Oltrarno district, known for its artisan workshops. For lunch, I highly recommend Osteria Santo Spirito. Reservations are needed for dinner (you can find them on whatsapp).

La Rinascente Rooftop Bar

For an elegant aperitivo experience with panoramic city views, visit the rooftop bar of the Rinascente department store in Piazza della Repubblica. This elevated piazza offers beautiful panoramic views of Florence, particularly at sunset. It is accessible via a walk or short taxi/bus ride.

Unique Tuscan Experiences

Day Trips with The Tuscan Wanderer

For personalized and immersive excursions into the Tuscan countryside, consider booking a private tour with Giovanni from The Tuscan Wanderer. He offers customized tours including visits to picturesque towns, wineries, and culinary experiences.

Fiesole

Il Salviatino is situated just minutes from Fiesole, a historic hill town directly above Florence. From here, you can easily explore Fiesole's charming town center and its notable sites, including the Roman Amphitheater and Archaeological Area.

Your Presence is our Present!

Having you join us to celebrate our special day is the greatest gift of all, especially for those traveling from afar. We truly appreciate you making the journey to Tuscany!

However, if you would still like to offer a gesture, please consider a donation to one of these wonderful charities instead:
